New Mexico attempts to tax video games.

The idiocy that surrounds politicians and anti-video game legislation just added a new chapter, New Mexico. Like similar legislation in my home state of Wisconsin, the proposal has to do with taxing video games in much the same way Tabaco and alchole are taxed, so as to fund programs for children. First off, it redicoules that this tax equates video games as being on par with tabaco or Alchole.

Which video game do I have to buy to get cancer or get a hangover. The Sierra club of New Mexico which is pushing the tax also seems to think that all gamers must be fatties as a result of playing video games. This bs when you look at the popularity of Wiifit and DDR along with the much more active control system of the wii which is so popular that no one can get one a year after its launch. While it probably won’t pass, it shouldn’t be ignored since it would set a dangerous precedent in region with the home of the FPS (Dallas, Texas), and the convention central (LA, California).

Maybe Sierra could look into the articles below that point out how video games help kids stay healthy.

DDR helps kids lose weight

IGN article about DDR and health

a whole website devoted to excercising with wiifit
